Writing — Reporting — Producing
My journalism experience started out with writing and reporting for print outlets, but I’ve spent a majority of my news career since as a producer for broadcast outlets CNN and NPR. I’ve covered everything from politics and international affairs to transportation to arts and culture, in the field and at the office.
Here are some examples of work I’ve reported for NPR News, CNN, and the Free Times.
How young Republicans and Democrats are whipping up votes in key districts
I traveled with a team from All Things Considered to Georgia ahead of the 2024 election for swing state coverage in September. During that week of coverage, we talked to voters of all ages, went door knocking with the New Georgia Project, interviewed Georgia political leaders like Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, and much more.
'People do avoid me': How a toxic train derailment split a village in two
All Things Considered host Scott Detrow and I traveled to East Palestine, OH, to check on the town’s recovery one year after a train derailed and spilled toxic chemicals. We were granted access to the derailment site, and spoke to a number of residents, as well as the mayor. Upon our return to DC, we sat down with Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg to discuss the recovery.
People have been searching for this song from 'The X-Files' for 25 years. Until now
A viral tweet led to this story — I interviewed an X-Files fan that noticed a catchy tune in the background of an episode but couldn’t find it anywhere. I also spoke to the song’s writers, after they’d responded to the online outcry. They later officially released the song, which was written for that particular episode!
We visited a camp for Palestinians and heard despair for Gaza — and anger at America
This is just one story our All Things Considered team reported during a reporting trip with All Things Considered host Mary Louise Kelly. We spent one week reporting from Israel, the West Bank, Jerusalem, and Amman, Jordan.
Additional stories: We were interviewing a Palestinian farmer. Then the drone and soldiers appeared
In the shops of Jerusalem, empty seats and anguished hearts are all that's left
When disaster strikes, these good boys and girls are your rescue crew
All Things Considered host Scott Detrow and I traveled to Baltimore to shadow a team of dogs that are deployed by FEMA to disaster recovery areas. We accompanied the rescue team as they ran drills and did searches in simulated rubble. Maryland Taskforce One has sent their canines to disasters like the wildfires in Hawaii, as well as hurricanes and building collapses.
After the East Palestine train derailment, are railroads any safer?
Following the toxic train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio, I worked on a number of stories about the community as well as the freight train industry. For this piece, I interviewed a number of freight rail employees, and producer All Things Considered host’s interview with Norfolk Southern CEO, Alan Shaw.
The scene in a city flooded following the destruction of a dam
I was featured on NPR’s State of The World podcast after I spoke to Kherson resident Olena Nikolova following the city’s flooding from the destroyed Kakhovka dam. I interviewed her over the phone for a segment I wrote and produced for All Things Considered, and it was adapted into this episode of the podcast.
How over-the-counter Narcan could help save more lives
This is one of the episodes of All Things Considered’s afternoon podcast Consider This that I reported and produced. I booked and interviewed guests, wrote the script, and created a shorter version of this story that later aired on All Things Considered. It was also adapted into a Instagram “Consider This” video for NPR.
Michael Imperioli is back (after never really going away)
Ahead of the season 2 premiere of The White Lotus, I profiled actor Michael Imperioli — digging into his career (including his role in The Sopranos), his band Zopa, Buddhism, and more. I conducted a number of interviews for this, including with Sopranos creator David Chase and director Martin Scorsese.
New Yorkers and wildlife are finding solace in the city's parks
I traveled to New York with my colleague Kennedey Bell to produce this package for CNN+. We conducted multiple interviews with scientists and researchers, and spent multiple days in the field in New York. I also wrote the accompanying digital article for CNN.com.
Courage and sacrifice: 6 activists behind LGBTQ progress
Over the course of several months, I did extensive researched and wrote this collection of short bios as part of a LGBTQ+ series for Pride month. I collaborated with multiple teams that were shepherding CNN’s digital Pride series, as well as video producers based in New York that created the accompanying videos for my piece.
There's a push for classes on the Bible in public schools. And there's also a pushback
This is a piece I pitched and wrote for CNN.com Politics and Digital News. I interviewed a number of lawmakers, experts, and attorneys, and did research for this piece for more than six weeks.
Stevie Nicks, Pretenders Lived Up to Their Legacies at Colonial Life Arena
I was a consistent freelancer for The Post and Courier’s alt-weekly The Free Times in Columbia, SC throughout my senior year of college. I covered local music and art, wrote event previews, music reviews, and artist profiles. This was my coverage of a Stevie Nicks and Pretenders concert.
